An overview of Sound Networks to correctly set up the Waved Hub

Updated over a week ago

This video will describe how to get an overview of the sound network. To set up the Waved Hub correctly, an understanding of which networks are available and how to connect to them is necessary. This video is primarily for installations where the sound system is connected to a cabled network.

The first step is to locate the network switch where the sound processor is connected. This network switch is most likely where all audio equipment is connected, such as wall-mounted audio panels. After identifying the network switch, the next step is to find out if this network is connected to the internet. The easiest way to do this is to connect a computer and check if the computer is given an ip-address on the network and if the internet is accessible.

If the sound network isn’t connected to the internet, the possibility to connect it to the internet should be explored. If there is another network in close proximity, which often is the case when the sound system is located in a technical room, investigate if this network has internet, and if the two networks can be joined together with an ethernet cable. If the networks can be joined together, there is now a single network which is connected to both the sound system and the internet.

If the sound network can’t be connected to another network which has an internet connection, the Hub needs to be connected to the internet via Wi-Fi. This is because the single ethernet port of the Hub must be used to connect to the sound network.

After getting an overview of the sound network and possibilities for connecting the Hub to the internet, the next step is to make the sound network available from a good Hub location. This means a location close to the waved sensors, so that the Zigbee network of the sensors can reach the Hub. Often, there are ethernet ports available in the venue which can be used to connect to the network. They are commonly found near points of sale, such as bar disks or waiter stations in a restaurant. These ports are either already connected to the correct network, or they need to be patched in the technical room to the correct network. If there are no ports available in a good Hub location, there might be a need for running an ethernet cable from a remote connection point to a location more suitable for the Waved Hub.

To summarise, figuring out how to connect the Hub to both the internet and the sound processor is the goal when examining the network at a Waved installation. Additionally, figuring out how to make these connections possible with the Hub placed near the Zigbee network of the Waved sensors is necessary. When all this information is clear, the Hub setup process can continue.
